What is Anti Politics?
Anti-Politics is the negation of the state, the ruling class, and their political system. The praxis of anti politics is a flight from the institutions of coercion legitimized by the “despot of will” (as Bakunin called it). Anti-politics is a reclamation of freedom that treats ruling ideas as relics. This is because politics is predetermined as it is born from the necessity of a corrupt system. The praxis of departure begins with the demarcation between the legitimacy of our desires and illegitimacy of the system that governs us.
“Anarchists know that a long period of education must precede any great fundamental change in society, hence they do not believe in vote begging, nor political campaigns, but rather in the development of self-thinking individuals.
We look away from government for relief, because we know that force (legalized) invades the personal liberty of man, seizes upon the natural elements and intervenes between man and natural laws; from this exercise of force through governments flows nearly all the misery, poverty, crime and confusion existing in society.” – Lucy Parsons
To participate in politics is to strengthen the state’s violence which enforces the capitalist system through an illusion of legitimacy. Politics is nothing but a “force (legalized)” as violence is enshrined in laws, validated by the approval of the vote, and finalized by those who comply. In short: politics is the submission of freedom to representation. To strengthen the state is to tighten the chains of enslavement. Therefore, anti-politics is an act of freedom, an act of liberation, and a negation of the state’s right to govern. Anti-politics is the expression of an alternative power. It is up to us to discover what that alternative power is.
